TIMES TABLES RHYMES!
Presenting our latest book…
★FUN TIMES TABLES RHYMES★
– Making learning the TOP 20 Trickiest Times Tables FUN and easy!
Many children find learning the times tables tricky! Some times table questions are trickier to remember the correct answer to than others.
We have written 20 rhymes that teach the trickiest times table facts and make it fun and easy!
We’ve also specifically designed it with visual and auditory learners in mind.
This book teaches the times tables in a unique way. It is a book of mathematical Rhymes which first tells a Rhyme, followed by a matching times table question and answer! The Rhymes have two verses that reinforce the commutative nature of multiplication. This means the order in which you multiply the numbers does not change the product; for example, 7 x 8 = 56 and 8 x 7 = 56.
Each times table Rhyme has a character or item which rhymes with the number in focus:
E.g. Seven apes had a fidgety itch... 7x8=56. An ape had seven fluffy chicks... 8x7=56.
Four pirates sailed with their dirty crew... 4x8=32. The pirates fought over what to do... 8x4=32.
“Implementing the ‘FUN Times Tables Rhymes’ in our school has been a really enjoyable experience. We use them in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, and the impact on our results is impressive.“ ~ Primary School, Cheshire
“The ’Fun Times Tables Rhymes’ have helped me to remember the tricky times tables. My favourite Rhymes are the ones with the fluffy chicks (7×8=56) and the lemon (7×12=84)“ ~ child, age 9
Each times table Rhyme in the book uses the same “Rhyming Couplet” format, containing a memorable story Rhyme that rhymes with a Times Table fact, enabling each tricky times table to be learnt in easy chunks.
There are 20 different fun times tables Rhymes, showcased in full-page format. At the back of the book, there is a certificate to cut out, personalise, and celebrate learners’ success when they learn all the times tables.
Learners will enjoy learning and saying the Rhymes repeatedly. Each Rhyme has a natural rhythm and beat. This, combined with the pictures, helps learners to remember the 20 tricky times tables easily.
This rhyming method provides an easy strategy for remembering the times tables. Research suggests that learning through Rhyme reduces the stress some learners feel when asked to practise the times tables and answer questions in timed conditions or on-the-spot questions while achieving the same goals.

SOME WORDS FROM THE AUTHOR…
Hi, I’m Helen, the author of FUN Times Tables Rhymes! I have taught for 18 years in a range of primary school settings, working with children in mainstream schools. I have met many learners with brilliant brains! I understand what motivates children and what helps them learn and retain information. The power of Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic learning to hook and engage learners has been my primary approach over the years. Along with having FUN while learning!
Research suggests that the brain processes rhymes through ‘acoustic encoding’, which makes it easier for the brain to recall them. You can think of this as being similar to how songs become ‘earworms’.
It’s well-known that children happily and quickly memorise song lyrics, yet some children find recalling the times tables difficult and stressful.
Pop songs are often written in rhyme, which aids in the memorisation of the song lyrics. A significant aspect of this memory creation process is rhyme repetition (often through a chorus or bridge in the song), which provides an easy-to-access link for the brain, thereby improving memory, concentration, spatial intelligence, and thinking skills. Because verses are made up of patterns, they are easy to remember.
The FUN Times Tables Rhymes work in the same way, creating memorable links within the brain through rhyme and repetition to create long-term memories.
Over the past 12 years as a Primary Mathematics Consultant, I have had the privilege of working in many primary schools and academies, supporting teachers and teaching assistants in improving standards in the teaching and learning of mathematics. I saw firsthand how knowledge, understanding and fluency in the times tables vastly improve children’s progress in mathematics.
Through my private tutoring, I’ve tutored some brilliant children with autism and ADHD. My sessions were hands-on and adapted to include their specific interests.
When a child I tutored struggled to learn the times tables, we made up some fun times table Rhymes together. Besides being lots of fun, the Rhymes helped them remember what they couldn’t before, and this is how my book FUN Times Tables Rhymes began!
I used the analysis of the UK Multiplication Tables Check (which children in year 4 undertake annually) to write Rhymes for the top 20 times tables that children typically recall incorrectly.
My Rhymes and their pictures make learning these tricky times tables easy!
I am grateful to the Head Teachers, Maths Leads, Teachers, children, colleagues, parents, friends and family who have trialled my FUN Times Tables Rhymes and given me invaluable advice, including my daughter.
Thank you for reading my story!
Warm wishes,
Helen Eaton
